We may never pass this way again

Life, so they say, is but a game and we let it slip away…. Seals & Crofts My husband and I took a short Sunday road trip.  We were to have lunch at his brother’s home in a rural part of Georgia.  We drove through several small towns.  They all had two things in common.  There was a Baptist church with many cars outside, and … Continue reading We may never pass this way again

Harley Hotdogs have more fun

LET’S BE FRANK!  Is there anything more All-American than the humble hot dog?  Whether it’s ball park or backyard grilled, New York or Chicago-style, “dirty water dog” or a high-falutin’ gourmet frank, our nation’s favorite tubular treat is a Fourth of July tradition that comes in many manisfestations.  Ernie Smith Just as I was retiring recently, my husband decided to start up a new business. … Continue reading Harley Hotdogs have more fun

On Growing Old Together-

I sit on the couch listening to the soft snore of my husband as he sleeps beside me. We have returned this morning from one of “those” procedures where the patient needs a driver. Those procedures come more often as we get older. My spouse and I are 62 and 59, and I am just beginning to realize that we are growing old together. Each … Continue reading On Growing Old Together-

2017 has been the second worst year of my life. I am just beginning to dig my way out of the destruction and to rebuild. I am trying to fit the events into some sort of framework with the rest of my life, to see the bigger picture. I am seeking understanding. Amidst all the darkness of the year, there lives a little girl who … Continue reading Discovering the meaning of life

Naptime

While spending the afternoon together, six-year-old Breezy was reminising with me about her “school daze” and the different schools she’s attended. I reminded her that she had left out the entire year of Pre-K. “Well, you don’t really learn anything in Pre-K,” she said melodramatically, “it’s just a whole year of fun before you go to work!”  Of course, I want to bust out laughing … Continue reading Naptime

Easy Breezy

Breezy, my six-year-old granddaughter, and I spent last Friday afternoon at Sky Zone.  It’s a fun center for children of all ages, but caters to school-aged kids 6-16 or so.  It has gymnastic type equipment, areas to dive into foam blocks, dodge ball games, and trampolines galore.  Breezy says it’s “just like Monkey Joe’s only without the monkeys.” Nothing could be further from the truth.  … Continue reading Easy Breezy

The brilliant Theodor Seuss Giesel

Although it seems “Green and Eggs and Ham” has been around my entire life, in actuality it was not published until I was two. It was published in 1960. In 1957 Random House published “The Cat and the Hat” by Dr. Seuss; in it he used 225 different words. His publisher bet him he could not write a book with fewer. He penned “Green Eggs … Continue reading The brilliant Theodor Seuss Giesel
